Pre-Conference Workshops

Workshop #101 Betty Pillsbury, Beginning Crazy Quilting Learn the Victorian art of crazy quilting as you create a block or tea cozy. Students will hand piece and then embellish their work. The quintessential crazy quilt embroidery stitches (feather, herringbone, and cretan) will be taught as well as many tips on working with beads, buttons, and other embellishments. ***This is a 2 day workshop that continues all day on Friday, June 7. Kit Fee: $25.00

Workshop #102 Debbie Boyink, Needle Tatting Basics with Debbie Boyink-Learn needle tatting methods, commonly agreed to be the easier type of tatting to learn. Students will learn the basic stitch, the double stitch, how to join the stitches into rings, how to make picots in the rings, and how to join the rings. Students may make a note card or simple motif (butterfly, turtle, flower, etc.) or work on simple edging. Instruction on pattern reading and care of tatting is included. Kit fees: $24 for book, needle and thread

Workshop #103 Sue Volkmer, Putting Your Best Foot Forward This class is designed to give aspiring teachers guidelines and hints to maximize their success. Learn how to be better prepared and how to promote a professional image. The class will provide handouts and basic resource information for teaching and publishing patterns, books and submitting articles for publication. The Quilt Heritage Foundation is interested in fostering new teachers and this type class will be offered at all Foundation sponsored conferences.

Opening Reception 7-9 p.m.You are cordially invited to attend the opening of the conference exhibits and to meet the faculty of the 2002 conference.

The Prom Dress Swap 9 p.m Bring a prom dress, formal, bridesmaid dress or other fancy gown and a pair of scissors. This is a perennial favorite and must be experienced to be fully appreciated. The only thing remaining at the end of the evening will be zippers and shoulder pads. Don't be left out, start hunting for your sacrificial gown now.
