The Faculty

Kelly Gallagher-Abbott is a quilter, fabric and quilt designer, publisher, business owner, teacher, lecturer, nurse, wife and mother of three children. She has been quilting for 15 years and was one of the quilters involved in the movie How to Make an American Quilt. She has been featured on Simply Quilts and Aleene's Creative Living.

Robin Atkins , author of One Bead at a Time, is well known for her bead embroidery techniques and her knowledge of the history of beads. She has taught at Embellishments and Quilt International. She was recently featured in Quilting Arts Magazine (issue #3).

Debbie Boyink is a tatter from Arizona who has been tatting since she was a child. She has taught both shuttle tatting and needle tatting for more than five years and is the author of Needlebooks and Other Gifts by Galloping Rabbit Press. She has also designed 4 crazy quilt style patterns.

Cindy Brick served as editor of The Crazy Quilt Society Newsletter for many years and was the keynote speaker at a previous conference. She lectures nationally on crazy quilts and restoration. She is a frequent contributor to many national quilting magazines. Her book Hanky Panky Crazy Quilts will be published this spring.

Victoria Adams Brown is the author of The Complete Guide to Silk Ribbon Embroidery and The New Ribbon Embroidery. She teaches silk ribbon embroidery and embellishment techniques nationally and internationally.

Kathy Fenchel has been stitching for 28 years. She has taught for several years and has designed her own line of patterns for Quail Run. Kathy was recently featured on the Carol Duvall Show.

Martha Green is a professional artist with over 30 years of graphic arts and teaching experience. She is most recognized as a fiber artist and has developed the "Carney Roadside School of Crazy Quilting". She offers a slightly different approach to crazy quilt construction and design. >/p>

Gloria McKinnon is the author of Anne's Glory Box and owner of the store by the same name in Hamilton, Australia. She has taught silk ribbon work internationally and other dimensional ribbon work. She also uses silk lithographs, plus lace and embroidery to create wall hangings and dimensional tassels.

Judith Baker Montano has developed techniques for making the piecing of crazy quilts go faster for today's hectic pace of life, yet encourages students to lavish their work with hand techniques of embroidery, silk ribbon and embellishments. Her Crazy Quilt Handbook, Silk Ribbon Embroidery and Crazy Quilt Odyssey are classics in the field.

Jo Morton is an artist, pattern designer, author and quilter. Her love of 19th century quilts has led her to study how to create that "old" look with contemporary fabrics. Her framed works are in much demand around the country. She will be sharing her expertise in framing quilted arts.

Kerri Murphy has been a silversmith, fabric dyer, embroiderer and bead artist and finds crazy quilting brings all her creative interests together in one spot. She has been crazy quilting for five years and has hand-dyed silk ribbons and silk velvets for a number of years. Be sure to look for them in the conference store.

Roxann O'Hare loves to collect, sort, make a mess, create a piece of art, and then start the whole process over again. She transforms `plain' fibers and fabrics into colorful patterns by hand dyeing, hand printing and stamping, sometimes with a specific project in mind, and other times its pure play.

Betty Pillsbury is a gifted needle artist from Middlesburgh, N.Y. She teaches all aspects of the art of crazy quilting. She has appeared on Simply Quilts and her works have appeared in many publications and exhibits. Her goal is to inspire student creativity by providing an understanding of the basics while encouraging individual interpretation.

Mary Richling is a woman of infinite talents. Her most recent topic of exploration has been Photo Transfer. Students will benefit from this wealth of experience and expertise.

J.D. Shumway is the owner and designer of Classic Threads Collection, a pattern company devoted to crazy quilting, silk ribbon embroidery, and various needle arts. She has taught throughout Michigan and was a faculty member at the 1996 National Quilting Association Show in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Cindy Thury Smith has been a quiltmaker for over 30 years. Her designs, articles and poems have appeared in various quilting magazines over the years. She teaches online at Quilt University as well as at many regional, national and even international venues.

Dee Stark is a talented artist who began stitching more than 20 years ago. She teaches nationally and internationally. She is currently working on her first book on the symbolism used in crazy quilting and other needlework.

Sue Volkmer holds a bachelor of science degree in education and has taught at many different levels throughout her life - high school, college, adult education, in fabric shops and in her own quilt shop. She is active in the Lincoln Quilters Guild and is a founding mother, as well as active member of the Nebraska State Quilt Guild.

Karen Williams is the founder and co-owner of Legacy Art and BookWorks, Inc. She specializes in fiber art, having learned to sew and embroider at an early age. Her work focuses on "painting" with fabrics and thread.
